Skinnalicious is having a Contest open to ALL Members

First Prize winner will receive a years subscription to the Platinum Club at Daz3D. or $100 cash

Second Place winner will recieve a 3 month subscription to the Platinum Club at Daz 3D or $25 cash
Those who's work makes it to the second, or final round will recieve a subdomain of their own for a year.

The contest will be open to the following categories:

Wallpaper
WindowBlinds
Rainlendar
Screensavers

The number of your submissions is unlimited!! There will be a special category in the download section just for this occassion. It will be called, of course,

Contest!

Voting will begin on the 46th day which will be Monday May 26th.
IE 8 will have DEP on by Default

Microsoft has announced in the IE Blog that Internet Explorer 8, now in early beta, will have DEP memory protection turned on by default.

DEP, also known as NX (for No eXecute) is the use of hardware features built into modern CPUs to block the execution of code from areas of memory that are supposed to contain data. Most severe software vulnerabilities consist of finding a bug in the software that allows the program execution path to be diverted to code introduced by the user, which will almost certainly be in a data area of memory. Therefore, DEP should block the exploitation of vulnerabilities in those applications—when it is active.

DEP has been in Windows since XP Service Pack 2, but since this same technique causes problems for a lot of software either with bugs or cavalier programming techniques, Microsoft started it out turned essentially off. They have been slowly turning on aspects of DEP over the years. System code in Vista is protected by DEP, although applications have to be opted in by the user. In Vista SP1 and XP SP3 a new set of APIs allows a program to opt-in on it's own.

Turning on DEP by default should make IE8 a considerably more difficult attack target, especially when combined with ASLR, IE Protected Mode and other Vista features. Remember that the DEP protection extends not just to IE, but to add-ins installed in it.

The compatibility problems that caused Microsoft to be so conservative with rolling out DEP are less compelling years after its introduction, with all the time programmers have had to adapt to it. If problems in an IE add-in cause it to blow up under DEP the user should look no further than the author of the add-in for responsibility.

FireFox 3 Beta 5

Mozilla has released the next beta in the row to the final 3 version. This is the beta 5. I have been using beta 4 since it has been released without any problem. As a matter of fact it is very stable, uses so much less resources that it would be the one major reason for me to keep using it! The downside so far? If you do use a lot of addons you will be confronted with a lot of incompatibility. They won't be available for the beta versions (yet). Do I miss them? None whatsoever........
You can get the beta version in your language right here...

Firefox Beta versions

Free PhotoShop Beta launches online...

I think it is pretty exciting that one of the worlds leading Graphics program is going "live" online for FREE. It seems like we just found out a couple days ago this was going to happen! Yep, PhotoShop is now available to anyone with an internet connection for FREE. It is a slimmed down version from the one that is purchased, but for those who would not have a chance to ever have it otherwise, it is most fantastic.

Learn More and Download

As of now the Vista SP1 are available for download for both the 32 bit and 64 bit version. I found them on fileforum but I reckon they are available on Microsoft too. Of course I have put the link for both versions up right here

Vista SP1 32-bit

Vista SP1 64-bit

Firefox 3 Beta 4

I have been using the latest beta version of Firefox 3 (beta) since it was released. I think that is for 1 or 2 weeks now. One thing I noticed was the minimal footprint it has compared to predecessors. If you compare it to browser like IE7...well, let's not, no use in it . I found a great article of people that apparently were involved in the development of this latest version. A nice read I think.

pavlov.net

The New Daz Studio 2.0

I have been using Daz Studio since it came out. Way back at version 0.9. At first is was clunky, slow, very limited, and not a very easy program to navigate. I watched as one improvement after another was introduced. They were always nice but nothing compared to what they would become in the 1.8 version.

1.8 was so customizable, easy to maneuver and the speed and added features were over the moon. Now just a few short months later comes the best version yet. One that has actually topped the 1.8 version...
2.0 has arrived on the scene and it is steaming. Not only is it fast, it has many many new additions.......

It now has:
Start Up Wizard
Auto Hide
Drag and Drop
Levels of Detail (LOD)
Multiple UV'S
Sub D
Integrated Content.
                                                   New Feature Details
There has never been a better time to own Daz Studio. It is still free and it is my personal favorite 3D posing program. YOu will need to register it with Daz Productions, but that is also free!!!
Download Here

Adobe to take PhotoShop Online

Hoping to get a jump on Google and other competitors, Adobe Systems plans to release a hosted version of its popular Photoshop image-editing application within six months, the company's chief executive said Tuesday.

The online service is part of a larger move to introduce ad-supported online services to complement its existing products and broaden the company reach into the consumer market, Adobe CEO Bruce Chizen told CNET News.com.

Chizen said Adobe laid the foundation for a hosted Photoshop product with Adobe Remix, a Web-based video-editing tool it offers through the PhotoBucket media-sharing site.

Like Adobe Remix, the hosted Photoshop service is set to be free and marketed as an entry-level version of Adobe's more sophisticated image-editing tools, including Photoshop and Photoshop Elements. Chizen envisions revenue from the Photoshop service coming from online advertising.

Learn More Here

Microsoft chops Vista retail prices

In what may be an unprecedented decision, Microsoft said Thursday that it plans to lower the retail prices for several flavors of Windows Vista.

For those in the U.S., Microsoft is cutting prices only on the higher-end versions of Vista, and only for the upgrade version used to move from XP or another copy of Vista. The suggested price for Vista Ultimate drops to $219 from $299, while Home Premium falls to $129, from $159.

Other developed markets will also see price cuts, while in emerging markets, Microsoft is eliminating the distinction between full and upgrade versions of Home Basic and Home Premium as it attempts to convince more users there to use genuine software.

Analysts were surprised by Microsoft's move.

"I can't remember a big price cut like this," said analyst Chris Swenson, who tracks retail software sales for NPD Group. "It's very unheard of."

Microsoft finalized Windows Vista in late 2006, but held back its retail launch of the product until January 2007. It has sold more than 100 million copies, largely on the back of a strong overall PC market, but retail sales have significantly trailed those of XP in its early days and Vista has received a number of critical reviews.
