GREAT LITERATURE:: JOKES
Four friends have been doing really well in their calculus class: they have been getting top grades for their homework and on the midterm. So, when it's time for the final, they decide not to study on the weekend before, but to drive to another friend's birthday party in another city - even though the exam is scheduled for Monday morning. As it happens, they drink too much at the party, and on Monday morning, they are all hung over and oversleep. When they finally arrive on campus, the exam is already over.
They go to the professor's office and offer him an explanation: "We went to our friend's birthday party, and when we were driving back home very early on Monday morning, we suddenly had a flat tire. We had no spare one, and since we were driving on backroads, it took hours until we got help."
The professor nods sympathetically and says: "I see that it was not your fault. I will allow you to make up for the missed exam tomorrow morning."
When they arrive early on Tuesday morning, the students are put by the professor in a large lecture hall and are seated so far apart from each other that, even if they tried, they had no chance to cheat. The exam booklets are already in place, and confidently, the students start writing.
The first question - five points out of one hundred - is a simple exercise in integration, and all four finish it within ten minutes.
When the first of them has completed the problem, he turns over the page of the exam booklet and reads on the next one:
Problem 2 (95 points out of 100): Which tire went flat?
MUSIC:: GUITARS

RICKENBACKER 360/12

This guitar has an interesting history. The company's owner decided to produce an electric 12 string in 1963, and the final design and prototypes came together in late 1963. Not long after that, the Beatles shot into world-wide fame, and were to come to New York to play on the Ed Sullivan televivion show. The owner knew that John Lennon played a Rickenbacker 6-string, so he set up a display in the New York Hilton hotel, and invited the Beatles to see his new prototype guitars. John and Paul came, but George was sick, and couldn't make it. However, John thought that George would like the 12-string, so they brought it to the hotel where George was on the phone with a Minnesota disc jockey. While talking to the DJ, he fooled around with the guitar. I have read two stories on what happened--the DJ bought the guitar and gave it to George, or, the DJ made the offer, but the company gave it to him on the spot.
In any case, the guitar became famous shortly after when it was heard on a lot of new Beatles recordings, such as "You Can't Do That" and "A Hard Day's Night".
Another well-known user was Roger (Jim at the time) McGuinn of the Byrds, He heard the Beatles songs and had to have one, although his was the 370/12, which was the same with a third pickup added. McGuinn used it for years on many albums. Pete Townshend of The Who soon started using it as well, and people like Tom Petty and Mike Campbell of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers also picked it up.
The guitar is still in production today, although it has undergone a few minor changes, such as having a 24-fret neck now instead of the original 21 frets.

Rickenbacker owner Francis Hall, at the helm of a company that had no competitive acoustic line, envisaged some crossover potential in a 12-string electric, and set his designers the task of producing one. Three prototypes received enthusiastic responses from the musicians who tested them, and he debut model settled into form as the 360/12 toward the end of 1963. Not long after this, in February 1964, The Beatles came to the USA for three concerts and a pair of appearances on the enormously popular Ed Sullivan show. Hall saw his chance: he took a 360/12 to The Beatles’ New York hotel to present to George Harrison to try out. Hall knew he had an in with the British beat-pop band, since Lennon had long played a short-scale Rickenbacker 325 six-string. Indeed, Harrison liked the new 12-string, and his approval—and subsequent use of the model—assured the 360/12’s success for all time.
Harrison used his new 360/12 on early tracks like “You Can’t Do That” and “I Should Have Known Better”, and brought it out for the majority of the songs on the 1964 album A Hard Day’s Night. The most famous Beatles Ricky 12-string moment is undoubtedly the title track to that outing, with its chimey intro chord and the stand-out lead break around the middle of the song.

GREAT LITERATURE:: Just a Heads Up
This weekend, my personal site had a rash of log in attempts from a blacklisted ip . Nothing new there.

BUT it was trying using the following users: madcat21, Tiggz, jjying, mikeb314, Pixstudio, Darnaez and Yangge and their corresponding passwords from somewhere. Now, these well known skinners had never signed up at my personal site, so access was denied, so I can only assume that these user names and passwords were snagged from some other site. So, if you have contact with these skinners, please let them know that someone has their information.

Thanks.
